For what i wanted, checking ebay etc. when i should be working this little gadget is perfect! With no contract to sign and no monthly fee the thirty hours free web surfing is plenty when your away from your home computer and you wish to keep an eye on things. Compact and neat its easy to pop into your handbag and for those of us who are a bit technophobic it so easy to use. A great value for money product!

Better than a smartphone, smaller than a laptop
Reviewed by Mark. Review Posted 16/12/2009
This is slightly smaller than many current netbooks, which makes it easier to carry – and also makes it more affordable (even before you've added the benefit of a year's mobile data included in the price). If you need a simple laptop-style device with a proper keyboard for email, web browsing and even a little bit of document editing, this is a practical choice. It works on GPRS, not 3G, which means you'll be able to go online pretty much anywhere there's a mobile phone connection. There's some kind of compression that speeds up your mobile web surfing, although it's never going to be quite the same experience as 3G HSDPA or WiFi. (Incidentally, there's WiFi built in so you can save your inclusive data bundle when you’re at home). The performance doesn't match a high-spec netbook running Windows 7 – but neither does the price. I think it's great value for money – and it's genuinely portable, unlike many so-called lightweight devices.

Great package

I received my Ubisurfer this early this morning and the initial impression is a great bit of kit.
From the price and what you get (included internet), it seemed a bit to good to be true. It has far exceeded my expections! The unit build quality is good and it is very simple to set up - I was online within 5 minutes of starting it up. The internet speed is good enough.
If you need a device to surf the web, you don't need to spend the money on a broadband dongle and netbook - this more that does the job and is a lot cheaper.
I will be recommending to family and friends!

Surprised me

Recieved this yesterday, and I am pleasantly surprised that it does seem to live up to expectations. I have bought it mainly to work on word and excel type documents on the train. This does the job, I can load and see excel docs easily, the word programme is quite impressive, though for compatibility reasons it was best convert word docs to Rich Text Format if importing (I use word 2003 & 7). PDF viewer works fine. The quality and look of the unit is very impressive, and has drawn admiring comments. I found

Surprised me (pt2)
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 22/11/2009
I have had a good chance to try out the internet options. The GPRS version works surprisingly well and has a simpler interface than usual browsers but still very user friendly. On reviews elsewhere I saw complaints about the speed of loading, but considering it has a 400Mhz processer and 128Mb of Ram, it does well enough for me loading pages in around 8 sec's even at home where my the mobile signal is not that good. I was able to bank online easily enough, and the googlemap facility works faster than on my laptop. The WiFi option works well, though "busy" websites and those with adverts running in the background do slow things down. Overall a very usable little device, you do have to be a little patient for programs to start, but given the spec hardly surprising, once loaded they work fine. Overall a good system to run alongside my main laptop, will suit all sorts of users.

Strange little beast.
Bought to keep in contact whilst on the move - which it does well.
Little habits:
Handbook really isn't. Has a lot of lights and sockets which don't seem to do anything that I've discovered yet.
Keyboard a challenge.
To check e-mail, you use one program on wi-fi and another when connection via vodafone and never the twain shall meet!
The clock is a real clock. Has no conception of hours and minutes.
Having never used Linex before, I now know why windows is so popular. Absolutely no help or info in this department.
Never the less, it does what it says on the tin and once set up, does actually do what I what when I want (so far!)
PS Better than my Psion 3a at over £350! and in colour!
