Fan replacement / upgrade

There is a good review of the server here, http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1193-page1.html but the last page explains how to swap out the fan for a quiet version as you need to swap the pins around because the HP one is non-standard. Looks easy!

I agree that this is really good value for money after the cashback. Just the case itself is worth the money IMHO when comparing to some of the HPC cases. To answer the previous reviewer, a PWM fan can be fitted by switching some cables on the fan connector (I haven't tried it myself yet): http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1193-page7.html

This server is fantastic value for money, the £100 cash back makes this deal even better.

The server itself runs very quiet and very cool. Windows Home Server 2011 installed perfectly fine, runs pretty quick.

The HP Service Management software also runs on this server with the WEBM plugin only.

Please also note that the only fan in the system is a 120mm fan in the back of the system and it connects to the motherboard with a small 4-pin connector, it looks abit like a 4-pin PWM connector but it isnt. Ive tried a PWM Fan and while the connector connects OK, the fan will not spin up. I spoke to HP and it looks like the fan connector on the board is a laptop specific connector but i cannot be sure.

The HP Part Number fan is 620828-001, its an SPS Fan apparently.


If anyone knows where to get a after market fan for this, please let me know!
