Good performance but reliability issues
Reviewed by Steve. Review Posted 14/06/2012
First item delivered was DOA, replacement worked well for a while (six weeks or so) and then started freezing, then changed its capacity from 128GB to 7.7GB so I started RMA process. I got asked by Ocz support to try updating the firmware. I used the Linux tools booting off a USB stick and updated the firmware to the latest (3.15 from 3.12) and then shutdown; on powering up the drive had gone back to its original capacity (128MB) so I reinstalled Windows 8 and I'm working on it now. Thanks go to the support staff who responded quickly and thanks for fixing the Linux bootable tools so they work. Just make sure you have everything backed up and do a firmware update first!

Cracking budget SSD
Reviewed by Steve. Review Posted 09/04/2012
First Petrol SSD delivered was busted on arrival; it showed up as 7GB in size in the BIOS on several PCs, RMA'd it back to dabs and almost a fortnight later got the replacement. The replacement was obviously a later batch, it had recent firmware on it which was a bonus, no need to update it, and the physical case was different. Popped the new unit into my laptop, installed Windows 8 consumer preview, been using it ever since; boots in under 10 seconds, resumes from sleep are nearly instant; in normal use it flies, even though it's in a laptop using a slower ultra mobile cpu. Best upgrade ever; it's a great way to transform the performance of a machine. Downsides are that the firmware upgrade process is a pain; it requires putting the drive to be upgraded in a PC as a slave and doing a destructive update, that's why I was glad it arrived with recent firmware. So 4/5 overall for the first delivery being toast; 4/5 for ease of use because of the f/ware update process. I recommended it!
