Awesome drives

Got 3 of these at £79.99 each for a file server. Arrived next day, perfectly packed; did some tests and scans, no issues whatsoever. A point to note, they aren't technically Samsung drives anymore, the ones I received were "Seagate ST2000DL004 HD204UI" with Seagate sticker. No clue if they're Seagate manufactured with HD204UI label or Samsung manufactured with Seagate sticker. Either way, it works for me and I'm happy!

Perfect

A great price for this huge drive. Instillation was a snap and is very quite too. My BIOS saw it straight away, windows detected it and installed it. You have to initilise it in my computer so you can see it there. It did not come with a SATA cable which I had not thought of but I happend to have one already. No complaints, all is perfect!

It should work but you will need a caddy to fit the drive into the chassis. Apple should supply them if you dont.
Thanks

Compatibility with Synology NAS
Reviewed by D Greenhough. Review Posted 23/10/2010
This disk is offered as a bundle with Diskstation 410j Nas. It isn't mentioned on the SYNOLOGY support site as either compatible or incompatible. Have you tested these to ensure your bundle works?

The likelehood is..

...That these are Samsung drives to which a Seagate stock code has been added in order to merge their stock records.
Although Seagate have had poor reviews they seem to have done well with the go flex range - I have two that I am very happy with. It is therefore quite possible that they will in the long term sell everything under the Seagate branding.
Dabs clearly state in the blurb that this drive has three not four platters which is the main thing I am instersted in.
When it comes to failing then I have had over the years failures with every brand of drive you can name, including two samsung drives. This is whay I h The reality is that for these prices they cannot maintain high levels of quality control and the likely number that will fail is probably already known and factored in to the selling price.
I am going to take a chance on one of these

Almost perfect for NAS
Reviewed by Tom. Review Posted 10/04/2012
I bought this for a new NAS I am putting together. It was the cheapest of the 2TB drives on the market, so happy out. Don't care about the cache size, seak times or SATA3. The HDD controller in the NAS is only 150gbps (SATA 1 I think). And network I/O is slower again so this is more than adequate. Seams to spin up from standby adequately fast for me, although there is a slight delay. The only other down side I can see is warranty... can't see it stated what the warranty is up front on dabs and there seams to be some sort of merger between samsung drives and seagate so not sure where I stand... still hoping I wont need the warranty!

Beware Faulty Disks
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 04/07/2011
These drives are good, fast and cool drives. Most drives manufactured since janurary are now free of the firmware fault, however, the firmware number is still the same. A word of warning though, of around 9 of these I have used, 2 were DOA and another one has recently failed with a severe collection of corrupt sectors arounds the 10-15% area. Would recommend a full format on arrival and regularly checking for read/write errors on these disks.

*BEWARE* Not an original Samsung HD204UI
Reviewed by Howie Seavers. Review Posted 04/07/2012
This is a Seagate ST2000DL004 not a Samsung HD204UI.
This is a sad marketing gimmick by Seagate, cashing in on the name of a quality drive after they bought the Samsung brand last year and shut down the Samsung manufacturing facilities.
These are cheap, unreliable Seagate drives, made in China and with the poor quality underlined by Seagate's new 1 year warranty policy. There's no other reason why Seagate would slap a Samsung label on one of their own products aside from trying to trick unsuspecting buyers.
Avoid, avoid, avoid.
