Excellent HDD

I have been buying Seagate drives for 15+ years and have only ever had one fail but it was 3 1/2yrs old they are generally excellent drives this is my second Seagate 500GB Barracuda the previous drive I put into my Sky+HD box which also works a treat. Im only giving it 4 stars for value for money as I feel in general HDD's are still a bit over price. Performance wise you can't go to wrong.

I bought 2 of these to use in a RAID0 stripe set on an Intel H67 motherboard using the SATA-600 i/f's.
Installation and setup was a breeze and Win7 installed with no problems at all using the Intel RAID controller on the motherboard.
First of all the Win7 experience performance was reported as 5.9 and no better than a single WD Scorpio Black in my laptop, which is on a SATA-300 i/f and Win7 32bit.
Then I installed Linux 64bit on the same array and frankly the performance was not that great.
After 3 days, one of the drives failed - it would spin up but just made a pathetic clicking sound.
I thought buying Seagate was a risk and I certainly won't be buying another Seagate drive, ever. They're both going back and I will carry on buying WD drives.
